Manchester United have announced that Antony, their Brazilian winger, will resume training at the club despite ongoing investigations into assault allegations.
In a statement on Friday, the Old Trafford club said the winger will be available for selection while police inquiries into assault allegations continue.
“Since allegations were first made in June, Antony has co-operated with police inquiries in both Brazil and the UK, and he continues to do so,” the statement reads.
“As Antony’s employer, Manchester United has decided that he will resume training at Carrington, and be available for selection, while police inquiries proceed. This will be kept under review pending further developments in the case.
“As a club, we condemn acts of violence and abuse. We recognise the importance of safeguarding all those involved in this situation, and acknowledge the impact these allegations have on survivors of abuse.”
The winger has been in the public eye in recent months following the assault allegations made by former girlfriend Gabriela Cavalin.
Cavallin claimed the player threatened to kill her and attacked her with a glass.
Antony was alleged to have attacked Cavallin “with a headbutt” in a Manchester hotel room on January 15.
She was said to have gotten an injured head which needed treatment from a doctor.
Antony described the report as “false” while police in Manchester and Sao Paolo launched investigations into the allegation.
