Police in the United Kingdom have further questioned a yet-to-be-named Premier League footballer as investigations progress into rape and assault allegations made by five women against the player.
According to the BBC, the player was first arrested two and half years ago, in July 2022, over suspicion of rape of one woman — more women subsequently came forward with their own revelations.
Shortly afterwards, he was also arrested for an earlier allegation of rape from a second woman, who reported him to the police in August 2021.
The alleged offences took place between 2021 and 2023.
“I didn’t want to exist in a world where I’m constantly reminded that rape allegations can be ignored as long as you’re talented enough,” one of the women told the BBC during their investigation last year.
As per the BBC, for the first time, the player was interviewed on Thursday last week under caution and questioned about an allegation of rape made against him by a fourth woman last year.
In February 2023, he was questioned about the report made by a third woman.
“This investigation, my only chance at justice, has drained me physically and mentally…the longer this investigation drags on, the more my trust in the system fades,” the first woman, who reported the player to police, told BBC.
