Meta Platforms Inc, Facebook’s parent company, has prohibited Russian state media from running ads or monetising on its platform across the globe.
“We are now prohibiting Russian state media from running ads or monetizing on our platform anywhere in the world, Meta’s security policy head, Nathaniel Gleicher, said.
“We also continue to apply labels to additional Russian state media. These changes have already begun rolling out and will continue into the weekend.”
Mr Gleicher disclosed this via his official Twitter handle in the early hours of Saturday, amidst lingering crisis between Russia and Ukraine.
This comes as one of several sanctions targeted at Russia for the invasion of Ukraine.
Earlier on Friday, the Executive Committee of UEFA moved the final of the 2022 Champions League from St Petersburg to Paris, while Manchester United ended its sponsorship deal with Russian airline Aeroflot amid Russia’s ongoing hostilities against Ukraine.
