President Tinubu has ordered urgent measures to cut food prices by reducing transport costs and boosting agricultural reforms.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Federal Executive Council (FEC) committee on food security to fast-track measures aimed at reducing food prices nationwide.
Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, disclosed this in Abuja during a one-day capacity-building workshop organised by the Senate Press Corps. He said the government is prioritising the safe and efficient movement of farm produce to reduce transport costs, which have been driving inflation.
“The President has given a marching order to the FEC committee already working on this issue,” Abdullahi said. “We’re promoting safe passage for agricultural goods through key routes to lower the cost at the point of delivery.”
The minister added that the directive aligns with Tinubu’s vision of food sovereignty—ensuring food is affordable, accessible, and nutritious. He further revealed plans to launch a Farmer Soil Health Scheme and a cooperative reform programme to strengthen grassroots development.
