President Bola Ahmed Tinubu revealed he nearly quit the 2023 presidential race after a relative doubted his chances due to the naira scarcity crisis. Speaking at a special Iftar in Abuja, he shared how he was discouraged but persisted with support from allies like former Katsina Governor Aminu Masari.
Tinubu also defended his abrupt fuel subsidy removal on inauguration day, stating it was a tough but necessary decision. “The hallmark of a great leader is the ability to make the right decision at the right time,” he said, acknowledging public backlash but standing firm for Nigeria’s future.
