The most recent controversial data turned out by the National Bureau of Statistics has put Nigeria’s unemployment rate at 4.3%, which is better than that of Canada, France and other countries.
The country’s unemployment rate is also said to be at par with that of United Kingdom.
As of the time of this report, unemployment rate in United Kingdom was put at 4.3%, that of Canada was pegged at 6.5%, that of France stands at 7.4%.
China unemployment rate was also pegged at 5%.
In the third quarter of 2024, unemployment rate in Spain was put at 11.21%, as of October 2024, Germany unemployment rate stands at 6.1%, Croatia unemployment rate stood at 4.8% as of August 2024.
SaharaReporters reported that the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) stated that unemployment rate in the second quarter of 2024 (Q2 2024) declined to 4.3 percent from the 5.3 percent recorded in the first quarter (Q1 2024).
The Statistician General of the Federation, Adeyemi Adeniran, had said this while speaking on the Q2 2024, Nigerian Labour Force Survey (NLFS).
“He noted that the unemployment rate among persons with upper-secondary education was 8.5 per cent in Q2 2024, while the unemployment rate among youths aged (15-24 and 25-34 years) in Q2 2024 was 6.5 per cent each and the highest.“
Nigeria suffers from issues such as inflation, food inflation among others.
There has been cries of loss of jobs among others in the country, with many critics stating that the NBS data does not reflect the true state of the country’s economy.
