Investigators say the suspected gunman who killed Charlie Kirk blended in with students and remains at large.
The manhunt continues for the shooter who killed conservative activist Charlie Kirk during a campus event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.
Kirk, 31, was struck in the neck by a single bullet while addressing a crowd of about 3,000. He was later pronounced dead in hospital.
Authorities said a high-powered bolt-action rifle was recovered in a wooded area near campus. The ammunition was engraved with messages of transgender and antifascist ideology, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Utah Department of Public Safety Commissioner Beau Mason said the gunman “appears to be of college age” and blended in with students. Surveillance shows him arriving on campus, moving onto a roof, and later fleeing on foot.
Governor Spencer Cox condemned the attack as “a political assassination” and vowed accountability.
