A Ukrainian lawmaker, Yaroslav Zheleznyak, has raised concerns over a revised U.S.-Ukraine mineral agreement, calling it a “horror” that lacks security guarantees from Washington. The deal, which grants the U.S. access to Ukraine’s vast mineral deposits, was initially proposed as part of President Volodymyr Zelensky’s five-point “Victory Plan” to secure American support. However, tensions between Zelensky and Trump have stalled the signing, with Zheleznyak revealing that the latest draft, dated March 23, allows U.S. access to all existing and future mineral resources, including oil and gas, without addressing Ukraine’s security concerns.
Zheleznyak warned that the agreement is no longer just a memorandum but a binding deal that heavily favors the U.S., urging Ukraine to push for significant changes before ratification. Zelensky acknowledged that Washington has proposed a “major” deal, but he has yet to confirm whether Ukraine will accept the current terms. Meanwhile, Trump has expressed confidence that the agreement will be finalized soon, though he did not provide further details.
