Eric Trump has revealed on Fox News that strangers have been coming up to him in the street and hugging him with tears in their eyes because they miss Donald Trump being president.
Trump, executive vice president of the Trump Organization, made the startling claim during his appearance on the Hannity show on Tuesday evening.
He told host Sean Hannity: “I can tell you, more people have come up to me on the street in the last week saying: ‘We miss him so much.’
“I mean, literally with tears in their eyes. ‘We miss the man so much.’ No matter what you say about him, he loves this country and he’s willing to fight for this country.”
Social media users quickly took to Twitter to mock the former president’s son.
One wrote: “If it wasn’t for covid I would hug Eric Trump with tears of joy because his father has been kicked out.”
Another posted: “Many, many more random people have tears of joy because Trump is no longer president.”
A third commented: “Are they big, strong men with tears in their eyes? Do they say: ‘Sir, we miss him so much.’ Is it really just you that says that, Eric Trump?”
At least one tweeter agreed with Trump, however, writing: “I cannot say this enough! Trump, I miss you! When I saw Eric Trump on Hannity and he said people come up to him with tears in their eyes and say how much they miss him. I teared up.”
Trump also attacked the Biden administration during his Fox appearance, claiming there was “no energy” coming out of the White House.
He accused the administration of failing to tackle the gas shortage, the border crisis and the conflict in the Middle East.
Trump said: “It’s an absolute mess. What this guy has done to this country in 120 days, 130 days. I mean, just the lack of leadership in Washington makes you shake your head.
“You may not like a mean tweet but, man, at least you knew that Donald Trump was out there fighting for the greatest country in the world, which is the United States of America. Red, white and blue.
“There is no fight coming out of the White House. There is no one there, they don’t travel down to the border, they don’t go overseas. I mean, there is no charisma. There is no anything. There is no fight, drive or energy. Americans see that, Sean.”
The White House has defended the administration’s response to the Middle East violence, saying President Joe Biden was working “behind the scenes.”
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki told reporters on Air Force One on Tuesday: “Sometimes diplomacy needs to take place behind the scenes. We’re going to evaluate day by day what the right approach is.”
