Two local judge clerks who are assisting with the assassination investigation of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse are receiving death threats, which come one week after Moïse was killed in his home on July 7.

The National Association of Haitian Clerks told French Newspaper, Le Nouvelliste, that two clerks, Marcelin Valentin and Waky Philostène, of Pétion-Ville peace court, were receiving “serious death threats.”

“Call on the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Mr. Rockefeller Vincent, in his capacity as supervisory authority, to pass the necessary instructions in order to guarantee the security of these aforementioned clerks, so that they can carry out their task in peace,” said Martin Ainé, president of The National Association of Haitian Clerks.

The newspaper also stated that the deputy justice of peace, Carl Henry Destin of Pétion-Ville Clément Noël, received “anonymous calls” from people who are threatening his life.

On July 7 at 1 a.m., Moïse was assassinated by a group of armed intruders. Haitian first lady Martine Moïse was also injured during the attack and underwent surgery in Miami, Florida on July 10, 2021. She spoke out regarding the impact of her husband’s assassination and her plans to move forward in his honor.

“This act has no name. To assassinate a president like Jovenel Moïse without having given him the chance to say even a little word, you have to be a hardened criminal,” said Moïse. “We know who the president was fighting against. They sent mercenaries to kill the president and his family at his home for roads, water, electricity, the referendum and the elections at the end of the year in order to avoid a transition to the country.”

“I’m going to redouble my efforts because the battle he was fighting was not his; he was fighting for us. We must continue. You know that I love you, I will not give up,” Moïse concluded.
