Nina Jankowicz, former “czar” of the Biden administration’s “Ministry of Truth,” joined MSNBC on Wednesday to discuss how the Department of Homeland Security’s Disinformation Governance Board was paused due to “disinformation.”
“All these sensationalized narratives about what people thought the board was going to do was completely wrong. It was a coordinating mechanism. It was meant to make sure that the very large agency that is the Department of Homeland Security, that people were talking to each other within it,” Jankowicz told MSNBC host Chris Hayes, during her first interview since her resignation.
Senate Democrats abruptly cancelled a hearing last week, where Jankowicz was scheduled to testify, after a multiple of her videos went viral, including one showing her bragging about being the “Mary Poppins of disinformation.” Democrats were reluctant to have Jankowicz face questioning from Republicans, prompting them to scrap the event altogether, which led to the board being disbanded.
Jankowicz told MSNBC that “disinformation” surrounding the board’s alleged duties led to it getting dissolved. She gave examples of different scenarios that would have been brought before the “Ministry of Truth” to decide of they were factual or not.
“Let me give you an example, FEMA, the agency that handles disasters and environmental issues, would often encounter misinformation about natural disasters. Let’s say an adversary like Iran or China would put out a false narrative like this is how you get out of the city, or this is where you can find disaster aid. That could put people really into danger, their lives into danger,” Jankowicz said.
