‘Get over it’: Newt Gingrich says Trump’s victory in Iowa cements his position as 2024 nominee

WASHINGTON EXAMINER

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich says former President Donald Trump’s victory in the Iowa caucuses has secured him the position as the Republican Party’s 2024 nominee.

The results from Monday night’s caucuses saw Trump win 51% of the vote, far outpacing his fellow Republican opponents in the 2024 primary. Gingrich argued that Trump’s win on Monday was “the people’s victory” and that Iowa voters showed up to declare the former president “our candidate.”

“He’s the nominee,” Gingrich stated on Fox News’s Hannity. “Get over it. He is the nominee. He’s going to win the nomination. The news media doesn’t want to say that because they need to somehow hype ‘please watch us while we go through this charade.’ There is no candidacy for No. 2.”

Gingrich’s comment comes after he predicted in early January that Trump would sweep the Iowa caucuses and would become the Republican Party’s nominee before the end of February.

The former House Speaker added that part of the reason for Trump’s continued support is because he is not a candidate but rather the leader of a movement to “take power back from the establishment.”

“And that’s why every time he is attacked by the judiciary, every time he’s attacked by the news media, he gets stronger because people go, ‘Yep, that’s what I thought. That’s exactly what the corrupt people will do,’” Gingrich said.
