Former Vice President Mike Pence recently made a decisive statement regarding his stance on endorsing Donald Trump for the upcoming 2024 presidential election.
“It should come as no surprise that I will not be endorsing Donald Trump this year,” Pence disclosed to Fox News on Friday.
Reflecting on his previous presidential campaign, Pence emphasized the profound disparities between himself and President Trump on various issues, notably highlighting their differences in handling the constitutional duties during the events of January 6.
“While I was running for president, I made it clear that there were profound differences between me and President Trump on a range of issues, and not just our difference on my constitutional duties that I exercise on January 6,” he articulated.
Pence proceeded to express disagreement with Trump’s stances on multiple policy matters.
“As I have watched his candidacy unfold, I’ve seen him walking away from our commitment to confronting the national debt. I’ve seen him starting to shy away from a commitment to the sanctity of human life,” Pence pointed out.
Moreover, Pence criticized Trump’s vacillation on the issue of TikTok, which he had contemplated banning during his presidency’s final year.
Trump’s recent endorsement of the app comes as the House of Representatives passed a bill that could potentially compel Chinese company ByteDance to sell TikTok or face prohibition.
“Donald Trump is pursuing and articulating an agenda that is at odds with the conservative agenda that we governed on during our four years, and that’s why I cannot in good conscience endorse Donald Trump in this campaign,” Pence affirmed.
Although Pence declined to reveal his voting preference for November, he unequivocally stated his refusal to vote for President Joe Biden.
The relationship between Trump and Pence became strained after the former vice president refused to comply with Trump’s demand to reject the certification of the 2020 election results.
During the January 6 insurrection at the Capitol, some rioters were heard chanting “Hang Mike Pence,” with Trump subsequently defending them.
Following Pence’s brief presidential campaign, Trump urged him to endorse him.
Trump officially secured the GOP nomination on Tuesday, setting the stage for a rematch with Biden, who secured his party’s nomination shortly before.
