US voters trust Kamala Harris more than Trump on the economy

According to a recent poll conducted for the Financial Times and the University of Michigan Ross School of Business, more Americans now trust Kamala Harris to handle the US economy compared to Donald Trump. This marks the first time the Democratic presidential candidate has led Trump on economic trust since the monthly poll began tracking voter sentiment nearly a year ago.

The survey showed that 42% of voters trust Harris more on economic issues, a 7 percentage point increase from Joe Biden’s numbers in July. In contrast, Trump’s trust rating on the economy remained unchanged at 41%.

Erik Gordon, a professor at the University of Michigan Ross School of Business, noted that the improved sentiment towards Harris is indicative of both Biden’s previous underperformance and Harris’s positive impact on voter trust. He stated, “The fact that voters were more positive on Harris than on Biden . . . says as much about how badly Biden was doing as it does about how well Harris is doing.
