Wikipedia incorrectly lists Gov. Tim Walz’s military rank as ‘Command Sergeant Major’

Wikipedia incorrectly lists Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as a “Command Sergeant Major,” a military rank he did not hold upon retiring from the National Guard, according to multiple reports. Social media users have shared screenshots of the Wikipedia page, which still inaccurately labels him as a “Command Sergeant Major.”

Although Walz temporarily held the rank during his service, he was not allowed to retire with that title because he did not complete the required coursework. To be accurate, Wikipedia should note that he served as a Command Sergeant Major but retired as a Master Sergeant.

Walz’s use of the “retired Command Sergeant Major” title during his campaign for U.S. Congress has been met with significant criticism from the military community, with some accusing him of stolen valor due to his failure to complete the final coursework required for the rank.
