AP sources: White House altered record of Biden’s ‘garbage’ remarks despite stenographer concerns
Recent reports indicate that the White House altered the official transcript of President Joe Biden’s remarks during a video call with Latino activists. In this call, Biden criticized former President Donald Trump’s supporters, referring to them as “garbage.” The modification aimed to suggest that Biden was condemning offensive remarks made by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe about Puerto Rico, rather than targeting Trump supporters directly. This alteration was made despite objections from federal stenographers, raising concerns about the authenticity of presidential records.

An email obtained by the Associated Press reveals that a supervisor called out the press office for the edit.
The supervisor said it was “a breach of protocol and spoilation of transcript integrity between the Stenography and Press Offices.”
“If there is a difference in interpretation, the Press Office may choose to withhold the transcript but cannot edit it independently,” the supervisor said.
“Our Stenography Office transcript — released to our distro, which includes the National Archives — is now different than the version edited and released to the public by Press Office staff.”
