White House confirms migrant deportation deal with Colombia

PM NEWS

The government of Colombia has agreed to U.S. President Donald Trump’s terms on migrant deportations, the White House says.

Trump threatened Colombia with tariffs and sanctions, after two U.S. deportation flights carrying migrants were refused permission to land.

“Colombia now agreed to all Trump’s terms, “including the unrestricted acceptance of all illegal aliens from Colombia returned from the United States, including on U.S. military aircraft, without limitation or delay.

“Tariffs and sanctions would only be signed if Colombia failed to honour the agreement,” the White House said in a statement.

Visa sanctions issued by the State Department and enhanced border inspections would remain in place until the first planeload of Colombian deportees was successfully returned, it added.
