Putin says he agreed to meet Zelensky to end the war, but after Ukraine consulted its allies, Boris Johnson, possibly sent by Biden, advised Zelensky to keep fighting.

This led to massive Ukrainian losses and territory. A peace deal in Istanbul would’ve kept pre-war Ukrainian land in exchange for neutrality and no NATO membership.
