WhatsApp is developing a new feature that will allow users to share music directly from Spotify to their status updates. Discovered in the Android beta version 2.25.8.3, this update will let users post songs as statuses alongside the existing option to send them via chats. According to WABetaInfo, the shared track will generate a preview displaying the song title, artist, and album cover, similar to Instagram Stories. A “Play on Spotify” button will enable viewers to listen to the track directly.
The feature aligns with WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption policy, ensuring that neither the platform nor third parties can access shared songs. Currently in development, the update has no confirmed release date but is expected in a future version. Users can track progress through WABetaInfo’s updates on X or beta testing platforms. This enhancement aims to streamline music discovery while maintaining privacy for status viewers.
