Yet another earthquake hit Turkey early this morning after two others wrought devastation across the southwest of the country and northern Syria yesterday. The death toll is approaching 5,000, and thousands more remain trapped under the rubble of collapsed buildings.

International community rallies to provide aid but Syria lacking support
Here’s a round-up of just some of the aid being prepared by countries around the world to support Turkey and Syria – though the latter appears to be receiving considerably less help.
– European Union – mobilised 27 search and rescue and medical teams from 19 countries to help Turkey
– United States – President Joe Biden said that US teams were “deploying quickly to begin to support Turkish search and rescue efforts”.
– China – China is sending $5.9 million in emergency aid to Turkey, including rescue and medical teams, state media reported. Beijing will also coordinate ‘urgently needed disaster relief materials’ for Syria but did not say how much would be sent…
