Russian leader Vladimir Putin goes to extreme lengths to prevent details of his genetics being leaked, but a recent investigation has accessed his DNA.
Putin has carefully cultivated his public image as a virile and hypermasculine leader, riding and hunting on horseback. In an effort to preserve this, he instructs his guards to collect his excrement on foreign visits to bring home in a doggy bag to Russia.
It is understood this is done to prevent foreign powers finding out about the president’s potential illnesses, which could undermine his public image. Significant health information can be found by analysing urine and faeces samples for both physical and mental health conditions.
It has also been reported that Putin travels with a portable toilet.
Farida Rustamova, a former BBC reporter, took to X to say: “ “My source who is an old acquaintance of Putin’s told me that the practice of taking his toilet to foreign trips has been around for years, and the Russian leader has been doing this since the beginning of his rule. While traveling around Russia, Putin’s guards have the option of clearing used facilities if needed; it is not convenient to do so abroad.”
But Ukrainian media outlet TSN have conducted an investigation via an analysis of Putin’s nephew Mikhail, a blood relative.
Hackers and medics found Mikhail’s genetic passport after he visited a Moscow clinic, providing insight into the health of his uncle. It is difficult to find information about Putin’s blood relatives after the information was deleted from his official biography.
