Northern Elders Forum issues ultimatum over extrajudicial killings in Uromi

The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has strongly condemned the killing of northern hunters in Uromi, Edo State, describing the act as “barbaric, extra-judicial, and cowardly.” In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Professor Abubakar Jika Jiddere, the NEF demanded the arrest and public prosecution of the perpetrators, compensation for the victims’ families, and an apology from the Edo State government.

The forum warned that failure to address these demands within 14 days would compel the North to “take all necessary actions” to seek justice.

The NEF also called on the federal government to ensure justice for the victims, emphasizing the need to preserve national peace and coexistence. The group stated that the North had “tolerated enough” and would no longer condone such violence, urging authorities to punish the culprits publicly as a deterrent. The incident involved hunters returning home to celebrate Eid Kabir when they were attacked, sparking outrage from the northern leadership.
