Matic labels Onana ‘one of United’s worst goalkeepers’

“At least I’ve lifted trophies with the greatest club in the world. Some can’t say the same.”

Former Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic has sharply criticised Andre Onana following the goalkeeper’s comment that United are “way better” than Lyon.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Matic, now 36 and playing for Lyon, said: “You know, I respect everyone but to say that then you need to give the answer. If you are one of the worst goalkeepers in Man United’s history, you need to take care what you’re talking about.”

He added: “If it was Van der Sar, Schmeichel or De Gea saying that, then I would question myself. But you need to have cover to say something like that.”

Onana responded on social media: “I would never be disrespectful to another club… At least I’ve lifted trophies with the greatest club in the world. Some can’t say the same.”

Lyon face United in the Europa League quarter-finals, with the English side seeking redemption in a tough season.
