Senate President Godswill Akpabio has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, calling for an investigation into what he described as a criminally defamatory allegation by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

In a letter dated April 3, 2025, Akpabio denied claims made during Akpoti-Uduaghan’s April 1 speech in Kogi State, where she accused him of directing former Governor Yahaya Bello to assassinate her.

“This statement is not only a heinous lie but a reckless and deliberate attempt to damage my reputation,” Akpabio wrote.

He called the allegation “entirely false” and “politically motivated,” insisting it was aimed at inciting unrest and discrediting him.

Akpabio urged law enforcement to investigate and prosecute Akpoti-Uduaghan for criminal defamation and incitement.

“Her motive was clear… to incite the public, manipulate sentiments, and malign my person,” he added.

This marks the latest in a series of public disputes between both lawmakers, following earlier accusations of sexual harassment.
