Former Super Eagles coach and captain, Christian Chukwu, has died at the age of 74.

His death was confirmed by the Enugu State Commissioner for Information, Aka Eze Aka, who said the football legend passed away in the early hours of Wednesday, June 12.

“He died this morning in Enugu after a brief illness. We shall miss him,” the commissioner said.

Chukwu, fondly called “Chairman,” captained Nigeria to its first Africa Cup of Nations title in 1980 and later managed the national team. His contributions to Nigerian football earned him national recognition and admiration across generations.
