Some of the inscriptions on the placards read, ‘Omu-Aran Says No to Band A’, ‘Bring Us Back to Band C’, ‘Revert Omu-Aran to Band C ’, and ‘Omu-Aran Youths Have Spoken Loudly’.
Youths in Omu-Aran, Kwara State, staged a protest on Friday against the sudden hike in electricity bills following the community’s reclassification from Band C to Band A. Led by masquerades, demonstrators marched through major streets, carrying placards with inscriptions like *’Omu-Aran Says No to Band A’* and *’Revert Omu-Aran to Band C’*. They rejected police escort, insisting their grievances be heard.
Protesters claimed March bills skyrocketed from N10,000–N15,000 to N41,000–N47,000, despite persistent power outages. The rally took them to markets, the palace, and the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company’s office. *”Omu-Aran youths have spoken loudly,”* read one placard, as they demanded an immediate reversal of the billing regime.
