Former U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a “reciprocal” tariff exclusion on certain electronics, including smartphones and laptops, in a move aimed at encouraging fairer trade practices. Speaking during a campaign event, Trump said the decision is designed to match tariff exemptions granted to American products by other countries.

“We will implement a reciprocal tariff policy, and we will exclude smartphones, laptops, and similar electronics where our trade partners do the same,” Trump stated.

He emphasized that the goal is to protect American manufacturing while avoiding unnecessary costs for consumers and businesses relying on imported technology. The announcement is part of a broader economic policy push as Trump continues his bid for re-election.
