China is calling on the U.S. to “completely cancel” Trump-era tariffs, saying they harm global trade and go against bilateral agreements.

China has urged the United States to fully eliminate the reciprocal tariffs imposed during former President Donald Trump’s administration, calling them counterproductive to global trade recovery. The call was made by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning, who described the tariffs as “unilateral” and harmful to both countries’ economies.

“The Section 301 tariffs imposed by the U.S. are inconsistent with the consensus reached by the leaders of both countries,” Mao said during a press briefing. “We urge the U.S. to completely cancel them.”

The statement comes as trade tensions between the world’s two largest economies remain high, despite ongoing diplomatic efforts to stabilize relations. Chinese officials argue that the removal of tariffs would benefit global supply chains and ease inflationary pressure.
