A roadside bomb exploded in northeast Nigeria on Friday, killing eight passengers traveling in a commercial bus. The attack occurred in Gwoza, Borno State, a region frequently targeted by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) militants. Local authorities confirmed the blast and said the victims were civilians heading to a local market.
Borno police spokesperson, Nahum Daso Kenneth, said, “The area has been cordoned off and investigations are ongoing.”
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, but officials suspect insurgent involvement. The region remains under heightened security amid ongoing efforts to combat terrorism.
