U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, Marco Rubio, has emphasized the importance of swiftly revoking visas as a national security measure when foreign threats are identified. In an opinion piece, Rubio argued that the U.S. must act decisively to prevent individuals who pose risks from exploiting the visa system to enter or remain in the country.
“Visa revocation is one of the clearest, most immediate ways to protect Americans when credible threats arise,” Rubio wrote. He stressed that while the vast majority of visa holders abide by the law, the government must retain the ability to act swiftly against those with ties to terrorism or hostile foreign regimes.
Rubio also criticized past administrations for what he described as a slow response to emerging threats. He said the current approach prioritizes “prevention over reaction.”
