“You cannot even move between one local government and another after 5 o’clock until 8 in the morning—and that is only after the Nigerian Army has scanned the roads manually.”
Senator Ali Ndume has revealed alarming statistics of Boko Haram’s resurgence, reporting 252 attacks claiming over 300 lives in Borno State within six months. The lawmaker disclosed three LGAs are fully under insurgent control, with severe movement restrictions imposed statewide. “From 6pm you cannot go anywhere except in Southern Borno,” Ndume stated, describing de facto curfews across most territories.
While praising troops for eliminating 800 terrorists, Ndume warned security forces are critically understaffed. “The total personnel…is not up to 300,000. That’s not enough to secure 200 million people,” he said during Governor Zulum’s emergency meeting with service chiefs. The senator urgently called for reinforcement, citing displaced military bases and paralyzed transport routes including the strategic Maiduguri-Biu road.
