He hates people who are poor. He died for you not to be poor. How can you now come to church with some kind of mentality?
Pastor David Ibiyeomie, founder of Salvation Ministries, has stirred controversy by declaring that Jesus Christ “harbours a strong dislike for poverty” and avoided close association with the poor during His ministry. In a viral sermon, Ibiyeomie argued that scripture shows Jesus “never entered the home of a poor man,” interpreting this as divine rejection of poverty.
The cleric further asserted that Christ’s death and resurrection were meant not just for salvation but to “free believers from poverty.” His remarks, which challenge traditional views of Jesus’ solidarity with the marginalized, have sparked debate among Christians. Critics accuse Ibiyeomie of promoting a prosperity gospel, while supporters defend his scriptural interpretation.
