The suspended Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Prof Abayomi Sunday Fasina, has formally requested a total of 228 days of leave, citing the need for a medical checkup and pending research engagements abroad.

The suspended Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, has formally sought 228 days of leave, citing medical checkups and pending research abroad. In a letter obtained by SaharaReporters, Fasina broke down his request into 150 days of accumulated leave and 78 days of deferred research leave, stating, “The need to proceed on the leave is imperative as it will afford me the opportunity to do my long overdue medical checkup.” He also referenced his clearance by the university’s governing council on sexual harassment allegations, suggesting the leave would allow authorities to review the report.

Following intervention by Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa, who reportedly rejected the initial dismissal of sexual harassment claims against Prof. Fasina, the FUOYE Governing Council suspended him but later approved his six-month leave request. A source revealed, “The minister was very angry… that the council tried to sweep the sexual harassment complaint under the carpet.” Prof. Samuel Olubunmi Shittu has been appointed Acting VC, as Fasina’s tenure ends in August. The registrar confirmed the transition in an official statement.
