“The attacker was not a fan of Trump I understand,” the president said Monday. “Just from what I’ve read and what I’m been told. The attacker basically wasn’t a fan of anybody”

President Donald Trump said he is unaware of a motive behind the suspected arson attack on Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro’s mansion, calling the suspect “probably just a whack job.”

“He was probably just a whack job and certainly a thing like that can not be allowed to happen,” Trump said April 14 during a meeting with El Salvador’s president.

Gov. Shapiro and his family escaped the fire around 2 a.m. on April 13. Cody Balmer, 38, of Harrisburg, was arrested and charged with attempted murder and terrorism-related offenses.

“The attacker was not a fan of Trump I understand,” Trump added. “The attacker basically wasn’t a fan of anybody.”

Vice President JD Vance wrote, “Thanks be to God that Governor Shapiro and his family were unharmed.”
