NMDPRA says petrol imports now at 14.7 million litres daily.
THIS DAY
The federal government has announced a significant drop in Nigeria’s daily petrol imports, now standing at 14.7 million litres. This was revealed by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), which attributed the decline to increased local refining capacity and private sector participation.
Speaking at the “State of the Industry” event in Abuja, the Chief Executive Officer of NMDPRA, Farouk Ahmed, said, “The daily truck-out now stands at an average of 14.7 million litres, compared to the over 66 million litres per day before the deregulation policy.”
He explained that the decrease followed the removal of the petrol subsidy and improved private sector contributions. Ahmed also noted the positive impact of modular refineries and the expected boost from the Dangote Refinery.
