A Federal High Court in Abuja has invalidated the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary election that resulted in Asue Ighodalo’s emergence as the party’s candidate for the upcoming governorship election in Edo State. The ruling was made on Thursday, citing the unlawful exclusion of 381 delegates who were eligible to vote in the February 22, 2024 primary election held at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in Benin.
Presiding judge, Justice Ekwo, maintained that both the Electoral Act of 2022 and the PDP Guidelines were grossly violated during the primary election process. The decision effectively removes Ighodalo from his position as the PDP’s governorship candidate.
