Senator Rufai Hanga of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), representing Kano Central, has claimed a pivotal role in the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Hanga recounted an invitation from former Lagos State Governor and current President Bola Tinubu to discuss the APC’s creation, stating, “Tinubu came to Arewa House in Abuja and invited me to his house. We sat in his bedroom and agreed on how APC should be formed.” He further asserted that without his involvement, the APC would not have come into existence, “If not for me, APC would not have come into existence.”
Hanga also addressed internal party dynamics, mentioning an agreement involving former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso and President Tinubu. He noted that while Kwankwaso was initially invited to join the government, the agreement was later dismissed, leading to feelings of betrayal. Hanga remarked, “There is so much betrayal in this political space that people must learn from.”
These revelations shed light on the intricate history and internal dynamics that contributed to the APC’s formation and evolution.
