A major 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck Colombia on Monday near San José del Palmar, about 150 miles west of Bogotá, according to The New York Times, citing the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake hit at 7:34 a.m. local time. Chocó region governor Nubia Carolina Córdoba-Curi reported injuries and severe building damage in Quibdó, home to roughly 140,000 people.

Shaking was felt as far as Bogotá and parts of Venezuela, though no damage or injuries were reported there. Seismologists are monitoring aftershocks and may revise the earthquake’s magnitude as more data emerges.
