Despite xenophobic attacks, Nigerian visa applications to South Africa have doubled – Envoy
South Africa’s Consul-General in Nigeria, Prof. Bobby Moroe, has revealed that visa applications from Nigerians have nearly doubled in recent months despite persistent reports of xenophobic attacks targeting African migrants across Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape, insisting that South Africa remains open for tourism and business.
Speaking on Nigeria Info FM on Sunday, as reported by Vanguard, Moroe dismissed circulating reports that South African missions had stopped issuing visas to Nigerians as “untrue.”
“It is safe to travel to South Africa,” he said, urging prospective travellers to obtain visas before departure and comply with immigration laws.
The Federal Government recently repatriated over 1,400 Nigerians who feared for their safety amid the violence.
