Mangione confesses to killing UnitedHealthcare CEO, pleads guilty
Luigi Mangione admitted to shooting UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson as he pleaded guilty Friday to two federal stalking counts, according to a report by ABC News. Describing how he tracked Thompson to an investor conference by posing as a wealthy investor, Mangione said, “I shot Mr. Thompson in the back… I knew what I was doing was illegal.”
Judge Margaret Garnett accepted the plea, with sentencing set for December 18. Mangione’s attorneys filed a motion to dismiss related state murder charges on double jeopardy grounds, though Manhattan prosecutors said they remain prepared to proceed with the state case.
