Strait of Hormuz to become US territory soon – Trump declares
President Donald Trump has declared he intends to claim the Strait of Hormuz as United States territory following what he described as Iran’s ongoing defeat, making the announcement with a chuckle during a political rally at a police academy in New York State on Friday.
“After we finish defeating Iran, which is being very badly defeated — pretty soon I’ll be declaring the Hormuz Strait a territory of the United States,” Trump told cheering supporters, adding: “It’s true.”
As reported by Punch, Trump and Israel launched military action against Iran on February 28, targeting its nuclear programme. Iran responded by establishing de facto control over much of the strategically critical strait — a vital corridor for global energy shipping — creating a stalemate that continues.
Trump told the crowd the US Navy had established a blockade of Iranian ports. “No ships get through unless we want them to,” he said.
The Strait of Hormuz sits between Iran and Oman and is internationally recognised as Iranian and Omani territorial waters under international maritime law.
