NARD announces 48-hour weekly work limit for health workers
The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has announced new work-hour regulations for healthcare personnel, according to a report by The Guardian Nigeria, capping the work week at 48 hours and continuous duty at 24 hours.
The guidelines, following a nationwide assessment of 6,350 health workers, also limit staff to two call duties weekly and mandate rest periods between shifts. NARD’s Publicity Secretary, Dr Abdulmajid Yahya Ibrahim, said the recommendations stem from a Federal Ministry of Health committee addressing burnout and patient safety risks.
The guidelines have been forwarded to hospital management for implementation nationwide.
