Prince Harry, Elton John, other celebrities face $13m bill after losing UK tabloid case
Prince Harry, Elton John, and five other high-profile figures must pay an initial £9.5 million ($13 million) toward the legal costs of Daily Mail publisher Associated Newspapers Limited, a UK High Court judge ruled Friday, according to CNN.
The group lost their case alleging unlawful information gathering for stories published between 1997 and 2015. Judge Matthew Nicklin said the claimants must justify why ANL’s costs claim, estimated at £34.5 million, is unreasonable, rather than the publisher proving it.
The payment is due by August 28 and represents only part of the total sum the group will eventually owe.
