2027: Oba of Benin backs Tinubu, calls for continuity

Benin monarch, Oba Ewuare II, has called for continuity ahead of the 2027 presidential election, saying there was no need for change for its own sake.

According to Tribune, the monarch spoke when APC Presidential Campaign Council Director-General Abdulaziz Yari led a delegation to the Benin Palace to seek royal blessings for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election.

Oba Ewuare stressed that the Benin throne remained politically neutral, saying his position should not be interpreted as support for any party. He also urged political leaders to cooperate and cautioned against excessive criticism, noting that nobody was perfect.
