Maresca demands apology for Bruno Fernandes’ 2023 derby goal
Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca says the club is still awaiting an apology over a controversial Manchester United goal scored by Bruno Fernandes in 2023, according to The Athletic. This follows Pro Ref chief Howard Webb’s admission that Erling Haaland’s winner at Old Trafford on Sunday should have been disallowed for Enzo Fernandez interfering with play.
Maresca, then Pep Guardiola’s assistant, recalled a similar incident in January 2023 when Fernandes was awarded a goal despite Rashford’s interference, costing City the derby. “No-one apologised,” he said. Maresca criticised the focus on officiating over City’s second-half display with 10 men.
