Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei picks global team to tackle catastrophic AI risks

Share:

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has proposed allowing third-party evaluators from nonprofit Model Evaluation and Threat Research (METR) to gain “employee-like access” to AI firms to oversee safety, according to the New York Post. Critics note METR’s leadership and staff have close personal and professional ties to Anthropic figures, including Effective Altruism networks, and have received funding from Anthropic investors like Dustin Moskovitz and Jaan Tallinn.

METR maintains its funders have no influence over its work and it accepts no money from AI companies. Skeptics, including former White House AI adviser David Sacks and FTC Chairman Andrew Ferguson, questioned METR’s independence and Anthropic’s motives.
