Rising fuel prices spark unrest across the world

Share:

Social unrest and political tension have broken out across the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East over soaring energy costs, with diesel prices in the US topping $6 a gallon, as reported by Bangkok Post

In Syria, protesters in Qamishli demanded diesel and bread prices “return to what they were,” while French fishermen blocked oil depots for days over rising fuel costs, prompting President Emmanuel Macron to call for “full mobilisation” on supply and pricing.

Bolivian farmers protested a diesel price hike in Cochabamba, and clashes in Guatemala left two police officers wounded amid roadblocks over pump prices.

Elsewhere, Indonesia saw demonstrations over fuel and welfare failures, while deadly protests in the Comoros left at least one person dead.

In the US, rising inflation has stoked political tension ahead of the November midterms, showing how deeply the Middle East war’s economic fallout is now reshaping politics worldwide.
