ASUU declares indefinite strike…

Share:

The University of Port Harcourt chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities has declared an indefinite strike over the alleged failure to implement the Federal Government-ASUU agreement signed in December 2025 and the continued non-payment of outstanding salaries.

Daily Post reports that branch chairperson Professor Omeh Obasi Ngwoke said the union had exhausted patience after several engagements with university management yielded no results, leaving lecturers with no option but industrial action.

“The union could no longer tolerate the continued non-payment of salaries,” Ngwoke said, adding that alleged illegalities within the institution also contributed to the decision to strike.

The UNIPORT strike adds to growing pressure on the Federal Government following ASUU’s national threat of a wider university strike if outstanding welfare issues from the December 2025 agreement remain unresolved.
