‘Any sickness I can’t treat in Nigeria should kill me’: Sowore vows never to seek medical treatment abroad if elected

African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has vowed never to travel abroad for medical treatment if elected president in 2027, declaring that any illness he cannot treat in Nigeria should claim his life.

“Any sickness he could not treat in Nigeria should kill him,” Sowore said during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday — a direct contrast to the practice of Nigerian presidents and senior officials regularly seeking healthcare abroad while public hospitals deteriorate.

According to Daily Post, the activist-turned-presidential candidate also pledged not to use the Presidency for personal or family gain, saying he was committed to ensuring no family liabilities were brought into the seat of power.

The remarks come as healthcare infrastructure and medical tourism by public officials remain contentious issues in Nigeria’s political discourse ahead of the 2027 general elections.
