Chelle recalls Iheanacho, Nwoko and Bewene for Super Eagles’ Russia clash
Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has recalled Kelechi Iheanacho to Nigeria’s 24-man squad for the international friendly against Russia on October 6, handing the Bursaspor striker an opportunity to return to the national team after his impressive start to the season in Turkey.
Iheanacho has scored nine goals and provided two assists in his first seven league appearances, making his return one of the major talking points of Chelle’s selection. According to AllNigeriaSoccer, Chelle has also recalled Stanley Nwabali, while several less-established players have been included as he continues to assess his options ahead of future assignments.
The full squad comprises Goalkeepers: Stanley Nwabali, Chibuzor Atata and Samuel James. Defenders: Kenneth Igboke, Isaac James, Benjamin Frederick, Emmanuel Fernandez, Victory Akpe, Abdullahi Bewene and Bright Osayi-Samuel.
Midfielders: Wilfred Ndidi, Chibuzo Nwoko, Fumen Michael, Georges Wilfred, Popoola AbdulRazaq, Sulaiman Mubarak, Jacob Adeoye and Raphael Onyedika. Forwards: Akor Adams, Moses Simon, Kelechi Iheanacho, Abdullahi Umar, Umar Abubakar and Edokpolor Peter.
The friendly against Russia will give Chelle another chance to assess his squad and build depth ahead of upcoming international commitments, with Iheanacho’s goalscoring form providing an encouraging boost to Nigeria’s attacking options.
